Fifth Street utility work wraps up

Utility work at the intersection of Highway 61/Vermillion Street and Fifth Street
is now complete. Crews have moved out of the area and right turn access off of Highway
61 has been restored. Full access at the intersection will return in the next few
weeks when the next phase of construction in the area begins.

Here is what is happening elsewhere:

* Downtown Historic Hastings: Utility work continues on Second Street. All downtown
businesses remain accessible.

Despite two delays for stormy weather, we hope to carry out a traffic switch tonight
on Hwy 52 south of the Mississippi River in St. Paul. If the weather holds out,
traffic will be switched tonight beginning at 7 p.m. to a single northbound lane
 and two lanes southbound on the southbound side of the roadway between the Lafayette
bridge and Concord Street. At the same time, the ramps from Concord, Plato and Eaton/East
Lafayette to northbound Hwy 52 will close.

Hwy 61 and I-35 closures

* On Tuesday, May 24, beginning at 9:00 a.m., soutbound Hwy 61 (London Road) will
be detoured at 40th Avenue East. The detour will follow 40th Avenue East to Superior
Street to 21st Avenue East and back to London Road. Northbound traffic will not
be affected. The detour will be in effect all day Tuesday for the installation of
a new Changeable Message Sign at 26th Avenue East.

* On Wednesday, May 25th, beginning at 8:00 p.m., northbound I-35 will be restricted

Don't forget-a traffic switch and closures start tonight south of the Lafayette
Bridge; Butler Avenue is closed also, for bridge repairs

If your trips take you along Hwy 52 you may encounter some congestion and delays
 as repairs and redecking begin on the northbound Highway 52 bridges over Plato,
 Eaton and Concord, south of the Lafayette Bridge. All traffic will move to the
southbound side of the highway after rush hour tonight. At that time, traffic will

The Roundabouts Are Coming

Six new roundabouts will be constructed as part of the Hwy 169/494 Interchange Reconstruction
Project. The roundabouts are part of a new frontage "ring road" system on the local
roads surrounding the interchange. Once complete, you'll be able to navigate around
the entire interchange without ever having to travel on the freeway, if you choose
not to. No roundabouts will be constructed on Hwy 169 or I-494.

Highway 169 Traffic Switch: May 6

We'll be switching traffic on northbound Hwy 169 onto the southbound lanes Friday
evening, May 6. If inclement weather delays the traffic switch, we'll reschedule
 it for Sunday evening, May 8. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained
on Hwy 169 throughout the duration of the project; however, nighttime lane closures
are expected.

I35 between Duluth and the Twin cities

Work is well underway on many projects along the I-35 corridor between Duluth and
the Twin Cities. Upcoming changes include:

Lane restrictions will begin on Monday, May 9 between Moose Lake and Mahtowa. Traffic
will be restricted to a single lane in each direction for this 14 mile stretch.
Forthcoming ramp closures on this project will include:

* Southbound ramps at County Road 6 (Barnum) will close beginning June 21 for 25
 calendar days.

Hastings bridge update

While the land piers on the south bank take shape and utility work continues, crews
have returned to work on the north side's ground improvements. As part of this work,
crews have been busy pouring pile caps - which will eventually become part of the
support structure of the bridge's north approach. The work will address settling
 that has occurred in this area over the years.

the state. The visioning process includes a series of highly interactive public
workshops throughout the state, where citizens can share their ideas and thoughts
about the future of transportation.
