Fifth Street utility work wraps up

Utility work at the intersection of Highway 61/Vermillion Street and Fifth Street
is now complete. Crews have moved out of the area and right turn access off of Highway
61 has been restored. Full access at the intersection will return in the next few
weeks when the next phase of construction in the area begins.

Here is what is happening elsewhere:

* Downtown Historic Hastings: Utility work continues on Second Street. All downtown
businesses remain accessible.
* South Approach: Crews are continuing their work on the stems - or pier columns
 - for Piers 1-4.
* North Approach: Crews are making progress on the retaining walls that are being
constructed as part of the ground improvement project in the area.

The Mississippi River at Hastings is still too high for work to resume in the river.

Traffic in and across the river will remain open

Residents and motorists will be able to access all downtown business, homes and
nearby marinas throughout the project. Boaters will be able to access the nearby

and travel up and down the river. There may be temporary lane closures for motorists
on the bridge and nearby, but these should be limited to off-peak travel times.
