Hwy 2 and 197 in Bemidji: 2017 construction
Lane closures on Hwy 2 bypass start Monday
Lane closures on the Highway 2 bypass in Bemidji begin Monday, May 15 as construction begins on the summer long resurfacing project.
* Initial work zone set up and construction of lane crossovers (will take about two weeks) * Stage one detour begins around the end of May (will last about a month)
Hwy 2- Bypass (May 15)
Along with resurfacing, the project includes bridge repairs for each of the bridges on the bypass. Most of them will not have additional impacts on motorists because they take place as traffic is shifted to the opposite lanes. However, the two bridges on the northern end of the bypass require two separate detours in order to complete:
* *Stage one*: Highway 71 southbound bridge connection to the bypass. Detour south on Highway 197 through Bemidji.
* *Stage two*: Highway 2 northbound bridge connection to westbound Highway 2. Detour onto Highway 71 exit, then west onto Highway 2.

Resurfacing on Highway 197, from Third Street NW to Seventh Street SE, is tentatively scheduled to begin *July 10*. The project will be done under traffic and motorists can expect lane closures and delays during peak travel times.
